Omega made headlines when it updated its famous Moonwatch with an edition called “Dark Side of the Moon”. All in black, every part of the case and dial was made from lightweight, scratchproof ceramics, a cutting-edge material that had rarely been used to such a degree before. Less famous but equally collectable is the Dark Side's elegant sister watch, known as the Grey Side of the Moon. The case and bezel are just as ceramic, but in an arguably more sophisticated (and Moon-themed) grey colour that goes exceptionally well with the sandblasted platinum dial, as well as its nicely inset subdials, classic Speedmaster hands and white SuperLumiNova tachymeter. The chemical symbols for each material are printed on the dial and caseback: Pt950 indicates a 95% platinum content, Si14 refers to the silicon used in the stunning co-axial calibre 9300 that you can view through the caseback, and ZrO2/ZrC stands for the zirconium-based compounds used in the ceramics.
